The Iowa State University Fashion Show Set Design team

Anka served as a leader on the Set Design team for the Iowa State Fashion Show for three years. She successfully collaborated with and led a team of fellow design students to ideate, construct, and install five set designs across the three shows, including the first outdoor show in the history of the program. You can find more information about the most recent show in her portfolio.

Set One

The inspiration for the first set comes from The Fashion Show 2022 theme of Resurgence. Resurgence is defined as “an increase or revival after a period of little activity.” Our goal was to capture the feeling of returning to Stephens for the first time since 2019. We wanted to create a moment of vibrance and excitement when the curtains open, filling the stage with bright colors and organic shapes to represent the positive shift in our lives as we have all lived through this pause in social interaction and engagement. The set intends to emulate the hope of reviving from this time, putting it in the past, and focusing on the future.

Set Two

The second set design focuses on the word “urban” and the feelings the word evokes. With Urban Outfitters, being our guest designer, we embraced their unique style that is popular worldwide, but especially in the “ready to wear” streets of an urban city. We attempted to create an abstract city skyline to emulate the urban street style. Each window of the city skyline varies in different silhouettes, objects, and colors to mirror the diversity in cities and Urban Outfitters clothing.
